Many people experience a strong urge to stool and sometimes don't make it to the bathroom in time. Other people simply have decreased awareness of stool leakage. Quite often people are reluctant to bring up their stool control problems. In 2016 SIG began offering peripheral nerve evaluation (PNE) for stool urgency and incontinence. Over 90% of our patients selected for this evaluation have experienced at least fifty percent (or greater) improvement of stool urgency and/or reduction of stool leakage. We have found this therapy can significantly improve stool control and allow people the freedom to participate in activities or events they might otherwise avoid due to concern for stool accidents.
